Researching and trying on new beauty products from the internet (that is a hit or a miss) can feel like an arduous task. Making simple choices and taking small steps is my modus operandi when it comes to cultivating an ethical life.

I like to believe that we all know we have to do better as consumers. There’s just so much information to sift through. It can be overwhelming, and shopping, fashion, and beauty are supposed to be enjoyable experiences.

My sister asked me if I needed anything from Sephora because there was a sale for VIBs, when I was running low on skincare. I saw it as a learning opportunity to see if there were conscious options. I was pleasantly surprised.

The more we voice our values and support the changes towards sustainability at these big box stores with our purchasing power, the more we will see greater change. I’m pleased to see that it’s happening on a larger scale, even though progress can feel like two light steps forward and an appalling step backwards with corporations (a post about aesthetics and ethics is coming).

Here’s a running list of ethical beauty brands at Sephora. They are organized into categories of values (vegan, clean, low impact, and cruelty-free). I’ll be updating the list periodically.
